He is recognized for having a solid trajectory in public and political functions in Costa Rica.

His first steps into Politics were as Chief of Foreign Service at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Costa Rica from 1966 to 1970. Following this, he participated as a member of the Costa Rican Delegation at the Second Ordinary Conference of Foreign Affair Ministers.

Chaverri became a delegate of the Costa Rican Government at the XXII United Nations General Assembly.

Participated as an Executive Board member for the Center Investment Promotion and Export Development (CEMPRO) of Costa Rica in 1967.

Became National Treasurer for the Department of Treasury from 1970 to 1972.

In 1982, he became a Congressman of the Legislative Assembly in Costa Rica, year in which he was President of the Committee of Juridical Matters.

During his stint as Congressman, he held the position of sub-Chief of Parliamentary Fraction of the Partido Unidad Social Cristiana (PUSC) political party until 1986, when he became Chief of the same fraction. He was also a member of the Treasury Committee and the Economic Matters Committee in 1985.

During his second period as a congressman, in 1990, he was elected President of the Congress in Costa Rica.

Simultaneously, he was President of the National Conference of Coalition in 1998, and sat as Executive Board member of the National Institute of Electricity (ICE).

Oversaw the Ministries of Presidency, National Planning and Economic Politics from 1999 to 2002.

Has been awarded various diplomas; among the most recognized, one in Legal and Institutional Problems from the Central American Integration, Central American Bank for Economic Integration (BCIE). Also holds a diploma in Arbitration from the Conciliation and Arbitration Center of the Chamber of Commerce in Costa Rica, two diplomas from INCAE (Effective Negotiation Techniques and Strategies and Trademark and Intellectual Property).

Mr. Chaverri has taken his wide experience to the classroom as a Law Professor of Private International Law, Diplomatic and Consular Law.

He is a litigating attorney, specializing in corporate and parliamentary law, as well as foreign investments.
